Introduction to WRTHY: Finding Yourself in a Fractured World

por William H Fort Jr 21 May 2025

Over the years of working closely with individuals in crisis—especially young people navigating depression, anxiety, and overwhelming self-doubt—I began to notice a painful and consistent theme: so many people were living without a sense of inherent value. Not because they had failed, but because they hadn’t been reminded, they had not been taught often enough or clearly enough, that they mattered.

Through my experience as a crisis counselor, I sat with individuals during their most vulnerable moments. As a designer, I observed how deeply our environment, our language, and even our clothing shape how we perceive ourselves. WRTHY was born from this overlap—the emotional truth I witnessed in counseling and the symbolic power I understood through design.

I didn’t just want to create another brand. I wanted to create a presence in people’s lives—something they could carry, wear, touch, a constant reminder that they didn’t need to earn their worth. That they were already whole.

Today branding has become more than advertising. It has become a form of storytelling, a structure of belonging. Philosopher Marshall McLuhan’s well-known phrase, “the medium is the message,” helps explain why brands matter more now than ever: they don’t just transmit meaning—they shape it. They create environments in which we live, emotionally and psychologically.

This is especially true for younger generations, who now engage with brands more frequently and intimately than with traditional institutions. These brands carry not only visual identity, but belief systems, rituals, and values. They have become stand-ins for community and, for many, symbols of self.

While some view this shift as shallow or problematic, I see it as an opportunity: if brands can influence identity and behavior so powerfully, they can also become a force —but only if they are created with care.

I created WRTHY to be more than superficially symbolic. It was designed as a daily reminder for those who feel unseen, unsure, or under constant pressure to perform. It’s for the people who wake up trying to hold themselves together, who move through their day constantly wondering if they’re enough.

WRTHY Wear is simple by design. Each piece carries an affirmation rooted in psychological practice: “Do Not Be Afraid.” “You Are WRTHY.” “Never Forget.” These are more than marketing slogans—they are grounded statements of emotional truth, intended to counter an individual's cycles of self-neglect and replace them with moments of reflection and reassurance.

WRTHY doesn’t stop at words or ideas. We’ve built pathways to practical mental health resources, community tools, and self-guided support for emotional regulation and self-discovery. In a world where attention is constantly commodified and comparison is relentless, WRTHY offers a small but consistent space for people to return to themselves.
I see WRTHY as part of a broader movement—a quiet revolution among a growing class of progressive brands that are rethinking what it means to be in business. These brands are not just responding to trends; they are responding to needs. They are asking what it looks like to meet people where they are—not just as consumers, but as complex human beings seeking belonging, clarity, and care.

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape our relationships, our work, and even our sense of self, it becomes more important than ever to hold on to what makes us human: empathy, self-awareness, resilience, and emotional connection.

Of course, WRTHY and other progressive brands don't offer a comprehensive solution to every issue. But they are a beginning, a contribution to a new kind of culture, where we don’t wait for institutions to tell us we matter. This is a culture where we don't require permission to take care of ourselves or each other. Where brands aren’t just selling us something to become but helping us reconnect with who we already are.

As I look ahead, my vision for WRTHY is long-term. It is not a moment, but a message. This is a message that I hope will resonate across generations, quietly reminding people of something simple and essential:

You were always enough.
You are WRTHY. "Do not be afraid"
